We thought it would be interesting to present our own viewpoint on the contentious issue. Recently, a flurry of articles have appeared on the future of PHP, with some critics claiming that it is a relic of the past and that PHP professionals have no future in the market. PHP is a widely used programming language in the software development industry, having first appeared in 1994.
Despite the fact that many new languages and frameworks are rapidly gaining traction, GitHub, TIOBE, Hacker, and Fullstackacademy all rank PHP among the top ten programming languages in the world. According to GitHub, PHP is the fourth most popular programming language.
The business demand for PHP provides insight into the language’s long-term viability and future. PHP is known for its high reliability and performance, as well as its low development and maintenance costs. PHP is a highly adaptable programming language that can be used for a wide range of business applications, including website development, CRM systems, and content management systems. PHP is fully compatible with a wide range of Apache, IIS, and MySQL interfaces, and it gives web developers a lot of power.
PHP is used by major companies like Yahoo, Facebook, Wikipedia, Flickr, WordPress, Friendster, Digg, Source Forge, iStockPhoto, and MailChimp, as well as 79% of all websites (excluding CMS sites). Because of PHP’s versatility and variety of benefits, it appeals to both start-ups and established businesses, which then seek out experienced PHP professionals. In a nutshell, PHP programmers are in high demand.
This is not the case, however, for PHP experts. Companies are competing for talent, which has resulted in an increase in salaries and remuneration packages for IT professionals. In the current state of affairs, IT professionals are in high demand across the board, with demand frequently outstripping supply.
According to LinkedIn data, PHP is used by roughly 20% of all developers in the European Union. This figure is so high because PHP is a relatively easy language to learn, and most PHP developers are self-taught. Because of the large number of PHP developers, salaries are lower than for other IT professionals such as Ruby on Rails developers, with salaries dropping by about 4% from 2017 to 2018. It is open source and can be learned for free. It also has a large community.
The most important thing to perfect in PHP, as in any other language, is your code. There is a clear shortage of qualified candidates with these skills on the market to meet the ever-increasing demand. Only 12% and 10% of PHP professionals, respectively, list Laravel and Symphony as core skills on their resumes. CMS skills such as TYPO3, Drupal, and Magneto have recently seen a lot of demand in the market. By including these frameworks in your tech stack, you will become a highly sought-after candidate who can command a higher salary. Clean, effective code is a priceless commodity that, more than anything else, will enable you to command a higher salary. Despite the glut of PHP developers on the market, there is always room to improve and future-proof your skillset in order to stay ahead of the competition.
PHP is a very well-known programming language that is used by millions of people all over the world for a wide range of applications. The future of PHP is yet to be written; current reports indicate a slight decrease in demand for PHP, but there is no need to panic just yet.

The interior is flooded with natural light and features open plan workspaces and sleek minimalist décor, all of which are hallmarks of Apple design. Large Corporation vs. Small Business
There are clear and well-established processes in place in a large corporation that dictate everything. You will have to adjust to a lower standard of living, but if the start-up succeeds, there is always the possibility that it will pay off in the future. You’ll most likely work with a small group of exceptionally bright people, but when it comes to problem-solving, Google will be your best friend. Developers are given full responsibility for their work in a start-up, which is appealing to many. A large corporation is for you if you excel in a position with clear direction and a strong support system. As the start-up grows, you will be able to advance quickly in your career. While working in various roles on various parts of projects, you will most likely have the opportunity to create important architecture yourself. It all boils down to what you value the most and your professional goals. Career Advancement & Professional Development Only you will be able to tell which one is right for you. Work processes and tasks can shift dramatically as a startup moves in a new direction, loses funding, or undergoes other changes. For many people, this is the deciding factor. One of the most noticeable differences between the two is this. However, it frequently stifles work productivity because time is lost due to constant meetings and bureaucratic ‘going through the motions.’ Tasks are not distributed evenly among the team members, nor are they discussed at length in multiple meetings. Everyone performs their specialized job role, with only pre-emptive planning causing changes to the process. On a merit-based basis, there are clear paths to advancement. Pay and Benefits On the other hand, start-ups give you the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a variety of technologies, many of which are cutting-edge. This, however, comes at a price. Both new businesses and established corporations have their own set of advantages and disadvantages. Large corporations, of course, have a lot to offer in terms of salary and overall remuneration packages. It is up to you to fix it, whether it is 5 p.m. on a Friday or if you already have an unmanageable to-do list. This is a gray area because both start-ups and large corporations provide excellent opportunities for professional growth and advancement, but in very different ways. The well-organized and well-defined processes of corporations eliminate a lot of ambiguity and ensure that developers are not overworked. The support system, on the other hand, will inevitably be reduced. Prioritization is given to whatever is required at the time or in the near future. Furthermore, you will receive a lot of help from internal developers as well as extensive training, which is usually paid for and provided by your company. You will gain valuable skills in a large corporation, such as navigating large-scale projects, effectively integrating teams, working with mature code, and understanding the inner workings of large corporations. Should you work for a small business or a large corporation? This divisive question has no clear answer, but it is frequently discussed in the software development community. In the beginning, you’re more than likely to do the work of three people for the price of one. To entice the best talent in the market, companies like Google, Facebook, and Amazon frequently offer above-market salaries and incredible benefit packages. You will most likely be your own boss, eliminating time-consuming meetings and bureaucratic procedures. Method vs. Insanity Starting a business is risky and requires a lot of effort, but it can pay off handsomely. All tasks are broken down into work items and Gantt charts, and then distributed evenly among the team. There is no clear-cut answer; it all depends on your priorities. If something goes wrong, you are responsible for repairing it. Large corporations are secure, slow-moving, and capable of providing a lot. Start-ups cannot afford to compete with large corporations. Those who have demonstrated that they are the best candidate for the job or promotion are more likely to receive it. Start-ups, on the other hand, work on a need-to-know basis.
